The Identity Madidi scientific project seeks more data on the ecosystem of the park. In six study sites 900 vertebrate species and 627 butterflies were recorded.
The results show that varieties of this insect in the reserve are three times higher than what was assumed (the catalog grew from 355 to 1080).
ID Madidi will explore 14 sites throughout Madidi National Park over the next year and a half. At their first study site, the researchers found a new species of frog. With two sites under their belt, they’ve recorded 60 vertebrates not known to inhabit the park.
