The images describe the expansion of deforestation by gold mining until February 2015 in the area known as La Pampa, located in the Madre de Dios region in the south of the Peruvian Amazon.
Image examines the area immediately at West of La Pampa Alto along the Malinowski River, where were documented more than 850 hectares of additional deforestation generated by gold mining between 2013 and 2015.
Near real time deforestation monitoring project stresses that deforestation by gold mining continues to expand in southern Peruvian Amazon (Madre de Dios region).
They call it La Pampa since before it became hell, before the machines become more than 58 thousand hectares of land in a cemetery of trees dipped in mercury.
Pollution of rivers, forest clearing and a desert landscape is what is observed in images of the operation against illegal mining in La Pampa, in the area known as “Mega 14”.
In the territory of La Pampa, lost in the depths of Peru, there is no law. An activity that has 40,000 hectares deforested and polluted waters.
